General Impressions -
What a blast! Man, fans of the brick RULE!!! So glad to see so many of you
again, meet some new faces, touch base with "old faces" and get to know many of
you better. Although BrickFest is wonderful, it is nice to return home,
especially to so many wonderful notes in my inbox as well.
I want to say thanks to all the people that attended BrickFest regardless of your roles. Builders, spouses that support builders, fans and collectors, first time attendees, the "diehards", as well as the public, who seems to have a growing interested and understanding for our passion. Huge round of applause for all the people that worked so diligently to make it such a success. From attendess to the coordinators, all the volunteers, those that worked the registration desk and throughout the building, to those that displayed mocs, those that travelled hours (days), as well as all the sellers, and those that hosted sessions and ran workshops. Including everyone else that just helped where ever they were needed. The effort made by all was impressive.
Under my Micro/Vig Room duties....
For those of you that created mocs for the Micro/Vig room. WOW! Micro is
growing and improving with every moc, imo. The creations were outstanding, and
I really appreciated the work you all went to, to make the Micro Room such an
interesting display. Micro Moonbase ROCKED... Castle was STUNNING, Town,
(present and future) was OUTSTANDING, as well as many other AMAZING mocs that
filled the room. The vigs were great as well, some funny, and some
contemplative, some just down right bizarre, all well executed. Well played to
all of you.
When I return from vacation I will post the winners, and update the Micro/Vig
page.
While mentioning the Micro/Vig room a huge thank you to those of you that helped
me set up tables, move chairs, taking pictures, "man-ing" the room during public
times etc. Special thanks to Susan, Scott, Doug, Summer, Orion and for those of
you that your name is eluding me during my current state of exhaustion or the
fact that you work so fast it's hard to catch your name tags.
Under my Special/Social Events duties....
Where's Waldo?? - I must say, I was pleased that so many of you played along
with this game, and those of you that kept me on task at replacing the new
missing fig... Im happy to report with all of your help, my figs have safely
made it back to Canada, and are no worse for the wear. Congrats to you all that
managed to spot and rescue one. Hope you all had a bit of fun with that
contest.
Speed Build - Thank you Mike (for even during my lack of concrete organizational
talents) for jumping in to help, and to the whole team of builders, you rock,
nicely done!
Free Build - I owe a huge thanks to August and Patty for making the Free Build
room go smoothly. You jumped into help and had a great attitude. Thank you
both so much. Amazing creations from all of the attendees that came into
play/build and congratulations to the youth and adult builders that placed in
the top three positions.
Mosaic Build - Thank you to all of you that came out to help build the last four
panels of the Build the Trust mosaic. For an early morning event, your fingers
flew. Considering each team managed to place 2304 one by one plates in one hour,
one minute and one second... and the rest of the teams completed only minutes
later, I would have to say, we had a great set of teams up for the build. Thank
you all for participating, and for those of you that had agreed to fill in when
we thought we may run short on early morning players. Nicely played.
Dirty Brickster - We had a large group of ppl ready and willing to play a round
of Dirty Brickster this year, so as the crowd began to gather, we quickly got
started with a first group of 30 players, and shortly after we started a second
group of nearly that many. Within minutes you could hear the familiar chant of
"Dirty Brickster" and lots of "oooohhhs" when exceptional tempting items were
unwrapped and the crowd taunted the next player in line to "steal" it away.
Thanks to everyone that joined us in that game.
Under my Volunteers Coordinator duties....
This event does not happen without the work of many volunteers, many of whom
have already been mentioned in other posts. I want to thank those of you that
pitched in, in various ways. We posted asking for help and I am so pleased to
say that a large group of you step up to the plate. What great team.... with
little or no guidance from me, and serious lack of knowledge of what was truly
needed when and where (since this was my first time covering this role). Huge
thank you, for those of you that signed up for tasks, and others that just
joined in during the Fest itself, everyone just really just jumped to action
when jobs were thrown in their direction. It was appreciated so much. Special
thanks to my son as well, that ended up doing lots of hauling, running and
various other tasks for me as well such as handing out 600 figs.
