And there are more pics in my brickshelf folder for those interested in more detailed shots! http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=133298

Wow Bill, excellent job! I saw him on Brickshelf and it is one of the few MOCS I have called my children into see. They were suitably impressed as am I. I was particular impressed with both the over all shape and the way you did his eyes with the arches. Please keep those sculptures coming.

Okay, there is one thing I am not pleased with, now I have one of the Mario games theme song stuck in my head. Thank A LOT!!!

Janey “Red Brick”

Thanks Janey,

I had a blast building this. It is the second time I used arches in this way to create eyes. The first time I did it was for a client who wanted a Lego version on their little dog, a Chinese Crested Powderpuff (also on my brickshelf folder if anyone is interested). I used 2 1x1x4 arches with a row of plates inbetween and it fit a 2x2 round brick perfectly inside.

For the Mario, it is the same sort of technique just taller. One difference is when I first put the blue 2x2 round plate in position, it seemed way too sunken in. So I attached the corner of the blue plate to a white 2x2 radar dish (or is it a parabola?). I then attached the white piece to a technic brick with a technic pin in the row behind it. It made the eye come out a bit more and gave a nice roundness to the eyeball!

The great thing about this technique is that it can all be done without glue. The bottom arch piece is inverted and covered with a tile and placed on top a a row also covered in tiles. It is really only held in place by the bricks around it.

Thanks for the great comments! I will be posting more stuff as I build ‘em!

Bill
