model is 32,000 pieces and 24 cubic feet.

Great work! Very cool look with the clear bricks too.

Thanks! Theyre my favorite part of the whole model, and Im glad the folks at
LPL liked the idea of using clear. (Versus their original suggestion to use
white.)
If the model were completely opaque, it would just look like a boring big ol
box. (Like the top two thirds -- not very visually interesting.)
|
Is it illuminated from within at all?
|
No, its not... some of the pictures may look that way because I used a lot of
big, bright spot lights for the photo shoot. :)
|
I know what you mean about the difficulty of gluing clear elements.
|
What have you done to solve this dillemma?
The glue I use yellows a bit when it dries, so I decided to place the glue on
the sides of each 1x2, rather than on the studs. The glued sides combined with
the regular-LEGO-friction of the studs made the model stay together really well.
... Although it wouldnt survive a good swift kick, because the parts would
separate at the studs.
This actually caused a lot of damage when it was shipped the first 2 times. Im
reparing it now, and the next time we transport it, well be using a
professional white glove service that normally handles things like museum
artifacts.
