Hi again, everybody!

Back in February I was asked to build three life-size monochromatic human busts. They were included in Herman Miller’s award-winning design magazine, “SEE”, alongside an article about the humanization of architecture and design. The issue should be out soon (if it isn’t already.)

The biggest challenge creating these models was trying to create the subtlety of human features without using color. I had to use depth changes to define changes between things like hair-and-skin, or eye-and-iris... It was pretty tricky and took a lot of design-and-redesign! And I was on an insanely tight schedule, too (I only had two weeks!) so I didn’t get to do as much prototyping as I’d have liked to. But, overall, I’m pretty happy with the way they came out.

I have about 20 photos and a big ol’ write up here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/17594

So... I hope you like them! If anyone manages to find a copy of SEE Magazine anywhere, I’d love if you could let me know... I haven’t been able to find it anywhere around here.

(...) Hey Sean! Pretty nice work! Although I have to say the red one looked like a guy with a ponytail and a moustache. I was pretty surprised it was supposed to be a woman! Still, nice work! Bill Vollbrecht <www.brickcreations.com> (19 years ago, 3-May-06, to lugnet.build.sculpture, FTX)
