I’ve been a little burnt-out and unchallenged with sculptures recently and decided to try something I had no experience with... mosaics. Several ideas occurred to me. I was happy with the Grayscale Mosaics I created and wanted to tackle converting digital images into color LEGO mosaics.

First I determined exactly which colors could be used in a LEGO mosaic. Although there’s far more than 100 LEGO colors, only about 25 come in a size, quantity, and cheapness that makes them useful in creating a mosaic. Then, using several software programs together, and a pinch of pixie dust, I created some Color Mosaics. Considering I just started tackling this challenge about a month ago, I’m pleased with the results. I’ve made three mosaics so far and every time I do I learn something and my next one is far better... in my opinion. :)

For my first color mosaic, my subject was my girl:

(The camera made the dark orange come out VERY dark for some reason. It is not that dark in reality.)

Although they are a fun build, these mosaics are very time consuming. Each took several hours.

Comments and suggestions welcome!
