The scans there now are all from my own collection, but I suppose
that there's no need for ME to actually have the figs in order to do
this.

What I've done is to build a little "photo booth" out of white
bricks, to help ensure sufficient lighting from reflection.  The figs
"stand" on the bottom plate during scanning, which holds them in place
about one stud from the surface of the glass.  Then I scan them to
100 DPI, 24-bit color to make a baseline TIF file for long-term
reuse.  I edit from the TIF to make transparent GIF files for the
web page and reduce the color depth some to keep the file size under
control for fast loading.

Since I can't usually be persuaded to pay full price for sets, my
collection is limited to stuff that's been on sale and hence, not
the newest lines, unless from very small sets (No Queen Leonora's
or Princess Storms, yet).

So, if someone else wants to scan figs that they have, and transmit
them to me, I can probably add those too.  As stated above, I'd like
to keep to 100 DPI, 24-bit color.  This makes my baseline TIF about
65KB in size, but I'd probably be able to work with a GIF, too. I'd
prefer not to use JPG, since the format is "lossy," and the image
therefore degrades during editing.

Figs I have that just aren't on-line yet are: Fright Knights (all),
Extreme Team (all, I think), Knights Kingdom (small sets only),
Dino Adventurers (small sets), Arctic (small sets only). Oh, yeah,
and Star Wars, except the Millenium Falcon-unique figures.
Adventurers will probably be last in line to post, since Chris
Rasmussen has done such a great job of them already (from instruction
scans) on his site.

My info on which sets the figs appear in comes from these sources:

1.  I have the set
2.  BrickSet
3.  LugNet
4.  Going blind looking at LEGO catalogs.

Hope that answers the question in much more detail than anyone wanted.

Paul

This exchange provides an opportunity for another shameless site plug.

Which is highly worth the plug. Very nice start, and the "nekkid" pics are
especially good in this era of figs that have a lot of headcover.

Do you have to actually have the figs in hand to create the entries?

Hey Paul, I love your site! That's a great idea; if you keep it going, I'll be checking back very often. I really love knowing what the minifigs are like before buying a set, and this could prove quite useful. (...) Not really, I guess ;-) [..] (...) (24 years ago, 25-Oct-00, to lugnet.build.minifigs)
