I've found that "scarring" is generally attributable to one of two things:
an insufficiently delicate hand, or an insufficiently sharp blade. When
you're removing paint with a blade, use *very* gentle pressure - you'd be
surprised at how little it takes to remove the layer of ink from a face!
Just barely touch the ink. After all, you can always go back over it
again to remove more paint - it's much harder to replace something you've
removed...
Another method (might not work too well for Jet) is the ordinary pencil
eraser. I used this on the minifig-me at my site to remove the bangs...

It does get tricky in small spaces, so if you trim down the fuzz on the Q-Tip first, it can help. I used this method on a (...) (24 years ago, 5-Jun-00, to lugnet.build.minifigs)
