This is Jesse again and I saw one of your latest creations in the newest
LEGO catalog and I knew that your blacksmith shop was going to make it.  I
did not know how well that it complemented the Guarded Inn but does it ever
fit in like a glove!  Your tank ideas are truly revolutionary but I doubt
that LEGO will ever consider a military theme.  After all, we have to fight
tooth and nail for the few LEGO Legends sets out there.  Tyco, another
brand, did that a few years ago, but I think that division dried up after
lackluster sales and bad accounting practices, that is, if it is the same
Tyco that they have been talking about in the news lately, but this is about
LEGO so I will keep the subject at LEGO.  Also, after 9/11, some people
might be offended at such an idea of making a LEGO military theme.

Jesse, were you trying to send this to me directly?  I just came accrss this
post here, so I may as well respond.

Thanks for the kind words on the Blacksmith Shop - I personally prefer my tavern
over's Lego's diminutive Guarded Inn, but then again I'm biased (and maybe even
sizest).

I also doubt Lego will ever be interested in a military theme.  The closest
we'll probably see to "war toys" will probably be Wild West and Star Wars
themes, although they did make two WWI fighter planes.  Anyway, a trip to Toy-R-
Us or Target will show that their competitors are doing a fine job of exploiting
this massive hole in their offerings.  Granted, the competitors offerings are
pretty weak, but I might even consider building an official Lego set if it were
a 3000 piece microscale aircraft carrier, a minifig scale B-17, or a Technic
Kawasaki Ninja (in classic bright green and purple of course).

Pertaining to my leave of abscence, I had to move into a new house several
months earlier and to refocus my energies into buying new LEGO pieces and
sets.  There is one quick piece of advice that I would like to interject
here and that is that flea markets are usually good places to get deals on a
large amount of LEGO pieces and they come in excellent condition as well.
The problem is knowing the dealers and when they will be around with new
LEGO sets.  I have also been trying to come up with a successor to my much
ballyhooed Galaxy Destroyer.  After 9 revisions, I think that it was time to
pretty much hang it up for that vessel, so I am building me a capital ship
now and it is around 200 studs long.  I have it around 88% complete as of
this letter so I will try to put it together and have it ready for you.  If
it looks like one elongated dog turd, blame the limited funds that I have
for purchasing said LEGO sets.  It has taken me the better part of 3 weeks
to build this LEGO space craft.  If you do not like this new vessel, I have
some smaller assisstance craft that might be worth seeing at least, Daniel.
I would like to color code my vessel more efficiently but I only have about
10,000 to 15,000 LEGO pieces.  Well, I hope you build more models for LEGO
because if they are as good as the Blacksmith Shop, then it should give you
the inspiration to build more models for them and more hope for me as well
because all that is left of Space now is Star Wars.

Obviously, I would like to see Lego make more of my sets too, but I would rather
they give someone else the opportunity instead.  There's planty of good or
better builders than I out there and it just takes a little patience and a lot
of practice to get really good at it.

Take care and have fun!

Dan
I have a suggestion for a nice helicopter for you to try and build, Daniel.
Have you ever watched the second or third Rambo movies?  I always wanted to
build one of those Sikorsky helicopters, you know, the ones that look like
the helicopter from Airwolf on steroids?  They have like a bazillion guns
and missles on them and are like fifty feet long in real life?  What exact
model of Sikorsky are they, anyway?  They seem to be derived from either the
S-37 or S-38 model but what kind are they called, anyway, that is, what is
their official name?

Pertaining to an aircraft carrier, I think that Mega Bloks, another LEGO
clone, has already built an aircraft carrier.  It only contains about half
of the pieces that you suggested, though, and the airplanes are only done in
one piece each, I think.

I would go for the B-17 myself but I would also like for you to try and
build one of those Sikorsky helicopters, please.

If I could ever get this space craft that I have spent almost a month on
built and scanned, I would show you and the other LUGNET users what I have
done with my measly collection of LEGO pieces lately and also some primitive
plans for other things that I have done in the past or have popped up in my
mind, the former being more prevelant than the latter in this case, Daniel.

I just wish that they would make My Own Creation a permanent set like Star
Wars, Harry Potter, and other such LEGO sets and themes.  If they do make it
into a theme, it would give other people the chance to build their own sets
and market them to LEGO International.

There is one last question before I go, Daniel, and it is, how did you
convince LEGO to accept your idea?  Until then, Daniel, keep building and
keep amazing people.
