Hi all,
Noticing a plethora of great WWII tanks and vehicles by fans, I also noticed
a big gap in the arsenal: allied tanks.
To wit, my version of a British close support tank, the Churchill Mk VII.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=19401
This tank, historically, features 152 mm of frontal armor and 95 mm of side
armor, making it one of the most heavily armored tanks of the allies. It
also sports (as seen here), a 75 mm main gun (as opposed to the shorter,
thicker 95 mm gun of the Mk VIII). The distinctive aspects of the real
Churchill are the extremely flat frontal armor (no slope as in a lot of
other tanks, but helluva thick) and the treads on the tank, the covers of
which extend on either side of the main chassis in the front.
My version features:
* A closable cockpit with hatch
* The ammo attachment on the back, which gives the turret a slightly longer
look.
* An extra ammo container on the side (something I saw in many pics)
* Various tools and attachments found on the outside of tanks during WWII
Note my model does not have "real" treads, as I do not have any besides the
small ones that come with Mindstorms and the Artic sets. These treads are
way too small and do not have enough wheels for a realistic scale model.
This tank took about 2 hours to design and build.
I have finished some other WWII models, including a Mercedes-Benz truck
towing a flatbed 88 flak, and am working on some other stuff. Pics soon.
Enjoy, and LMKWYT. :)
Jason
