Nice work.  One "trick" that I've found that works well is sticking regular
housewire *into* the technic flex tubing-- that way, one can shape it to
virtually any shape one wants and it holds.  That way you could get a more
prototypical arch to the spines on your MOC.

As far as purity goes, I'm not sure how I'd categorize this particular
technique...

If you have to ask, it's impure. LOL. Put it another way... does it have a
LEGO part number??? Didn't think so.

However my standards have slacked a lot lately, I printed up signs on
sticker paper for my ISCC entry. :-)
