Hi all,

I haven't posted any MOCs recently, but I have been building a number of new
things, which I hope to post over the next week or two. To start off here are
two riverine/coastal type patrol vessels. These are my first boats in the
military theme, and I expect they won't be the last. I always knew I wanted to
branch out from my usual tanks and ground vehicles, but it was the prefabricated
hulls that LEGO recently put out out that really inspired me to start building
boats.

The Swordfish Fast Armed Patrol Boat is built on the recent LEGO police boat
hull, which has nice sleek curves. I knew I wanted to build something fast and
well armed, with troop transport capability.

The Swordfish has a crew of six, including four gunners. It carries eight
Marines comfortably with plenty of space to spare for equipment or supplies.

Standard weapons include an autocannon and two heavy machines in the bow.

The rear weapons ring is usually equiped with a grenade launcher-double
recoiless rifle combo, but this can be changed for other systems like twin air
defense missiles or an autoloading mortar.

The Whale Armed Assault Hovercraft (sometimes known affectionately by it's crew
as the "Hippo") is used for similar missions as the Swordfish, but has the added
functionality of being able to operate on beaches and other smooth dry surfaces.
Some of you may recognise certain features in common with a certain classic
G.I.Joe hovercraft, and that isn't entirely coincidental.

The Whale is based on LEGO's recent Firefighting hovercraft hull section.
I've also used a motor and one of the old light and sound battery boxes to
motorize the fans in the back. I wish I could say that it actually hovers and
moves around on its own, but I'm not that good a builder ;)

Weapons include two heavy machine guns, a twin mortar fixed to fired forward,
and two missile boxes which can accommadate a range of sea-to-land,
anti-shipping, and even anti-aircraft guided missiles. It has a crew of four,
including two gunners and can transport a squad of marines (can fit up to
eleven, but eight is more typical).

I'll get the pix up on Flickr soon too.

Cheers

Magnus

Smashing as always. Have you thought of making a depth charge rack? If I recall correctly the GI JOE version might have had one. I'm sure if you make it modular enough, the Swordfish can become a monitor variant with a Bofors gun. F (17 years ago, 8-Oct-07, to lugnet.build.military)
