Do the legs on this move? If so, how? Why gears and axels underneath?

The legs do move, thanks to the awesome power of the click hinge. The gear business underneath is what the spacers refer to as “greeblies”, which are basically functionless bits of detail masquerading as machine components.

I’d love to have all eighteen legs motorized and moving in concert, but it’d surely have to be triple the size or more, and would require much more technic knowledge than I currently possess. Anyway, I’m usually more interested in the look of the thing over functionality, which is fortunate considering my propensity for building dirigibles.

Thank you for your interest in my MOC.
