   Greetings, all:

I’ve been lurking in this group for quite some time; if you remember me at all, it’d be for my ancient Hind gunship design back when that Soviet-helicopter craze hit out here. Anyhow, I’m back because I’m stunned by FBTB.net’s coverage of the new Dino Attack set designs at this year’s Toyfair (http://www.fbtb.net/toyfair/2005/). Not only has LEGO apparently plunged headlong into making helicopter gunships (http://www.fbtb.net/toyfair/2005/dino/74773m.jpg) and Humvee variants (http://www.fbtb.net/toyfair/2005/dino/74751m.jpg) among others, they’ve also done so on a scale that looks positively wacky. The T-1 Typhoon appears to be about half again the overall length of a Republic Gunship, and the Fire Hammer is built around two 6-stud windshields side-by-side like the townies’ new XXL Mobile Crane. I don’t have any philosophical problems with the new line since LEGO’s “we don’t do modern violence” case pretty much crumbled with Wild West, but I was curious what y’all think of the designs. Odds are I’ll buy a T-Rex vs. Typhoon set regardless and melt down the T-rex for an ashtray...that ship’s fearsome.

Well the colour change pretty much rules out me buying any of these sets...

BUT even if they were in the original colours, I would still be put off by the new dinosaur moldings.

Anyways...

I must say, even though I build futuristic military MOCs, I do find it odd that LEGO is now recreating real-life weapon systems & vehicles such as the rocket pods and machine guns on the heli, and the HUMMER... er I mean “Fire Hammer”.

Modeling a Winchester 73 (I’m assuming that the Wild West gun is modeled off it) is one thing, modeling something so close to real-life weaponry you see on CNN is another.

TLG... you’re slippin’.
