LDD is growing on me too - but I wish there was a way to view a model “dead-on” (zero degree elevation) to see if the vertical height of bricks lines up.

And I think I might have an answer to your dilemma. If you hit the alt key while moving the mouse, you can rotate the model to any degree. Granted, you can only look dead on while you are in the process of moving, so you will have to hold the mouse button while you look, but you can at least do it.

Also, in the view mode, (where you take pictures) you can set the angle to dead on, and it will stay there.
