Now I really want to build my model with actual bricks - Mark

Very nice! And I hope that’s dark red in the building - I’d love to be able to get that much dark red in one set. Looks like you’re in the lead at the moment!

A question: what are the 1x2 center-stud plates (the windowsills) sitting on?

Marc Nelson Jr.

Thanks Marc! (cool name, btw). The grey windowsill 1x2 center-stud plates (my favorite piece) are sitting on top of another red 1x2 center stud plate to get the 1/2 stud offset.

One other useful trick is to put them on top of technic bricks. Usually 1x1 bricks turned sideways so the hole doesn’t face out. The hollow stud at the top of a technic brick is perfect to center a 1x2 center stud (or standard) plate into. I sometimes use 1x8, or 1xN technic bricks, fill the holes with the small rivet, and then attach a sideways facing tile for some visual 2/5th stud offset as well.

A technic brick or 2x2 window is also a perfect brick to “return” a 1/2 stud offset back to the standard offset. Place the technic brick on top of the 1x2 center stud plate, and then you can center a standard 1x2 plate or brick on top to return back to “normal”.

Check out my Union Station for more examples, if you haven’t already seen it.

P.S. I love your USS Constellation. The details on it are very creative. I hope to be able to vote for it in Week 4. How did you get the plates to rest at non-90 degree angles? I can’t seem to make LDD do it.

I was thinking about entering a sailing ship, but I’d be hard pressed to top yours. Looks like no Statue of Liberty for me either, since somebody used that to win in Week 2. I had built a nice 32x32 size Statue of Liberty with pedestal that I was going to scale down by 1/2....

The entries keep amazing me by getting better each week. By Week 8, it’s going to be unimaginably impressive.

Mark
