Switch to a top-down view and place the cars where you want them. Then switch
back to a side view and press Page Down to set them down on the road.

Alternately, you can use the 3 and 9 keys on the numpad, which is really useful
considering all the viewpoint controls are there as well. All this is detailed
in the manual (Program FilesLEGO Digital Designerdocumentation\indexeng.html).
I hope that in the future, they will incorporate keyboard shortcuts to move the
selected brick in the x and z axes as well, as you often cannot get it in the
exact right place, even from top view.
