Ok, this is gonna be tough. I like this thing so much, you all are just
gonna have to let me Phreak out.
I'm gathering Jama's wires and Connecting the Vision Cam to the Laptop that
Rob Limbaugh so gratiously loaned me for the event. The back usb on
mycomputer is still busted.
With 10 Mechs of my own on display, the constant technical attention to the
Jamocklaquat running multiple motors and Camera/laptop/vision command
running, it became sort of an unspoken duty that Bryce and Dave stepped up
on when it came time to bust out and show Brian Cooper's MS 06 and the Two
Mecha you sent to us as well for the Bricks West 2003 Mecha Exhibit. I was
glad for that because I was busy getting ready, so I thank them for that.
But, what was great about that, was, as I was setting up, Bryce walks up
next to me and says _look_.
I turn and see Both your Tallgese 3 and NK2 in that beautiful Pose.
It was as if you had posed NK2 yourself. My first impression you could say
was at 8feet away and it looked slender, suity and the legs! Oh! the legs!
So long and, hubba hubba! Then I walked up to it and laughed and said...
"ah! look how he used the Red clear thing in the head!" We all looked at
eachother and nodded it our heads. Maybe some knee slapping went on..... (!!!)
Yep, this is so wonderful. I dig it. I think its cool. Just try and count
all the differnt SNOTs on it. Let alone in one small area. Studs and parts
fitting together all over.
One thing I relate to is when I see NK2 I see an important principle taking
place.
Your use of the ball joint constitues a very important design phylosophy, be
it through your natural sense as an artist/engineer or just by learning over
time, it comes down to a simple and beautiful law. When you build at no
matter what scale, the (any) type of joint works best at a certain scale or
level.
I see NK2 and see you knew you could only go so far with the weights
involved, and still maintain the look your going for. As do we all when we
build. I just think its a good practice to understand the limits involved
with the basic elements we use. Start to pick up a single ball joint and
work to create limbs and you start to see the limits of weight you can
expect to get out of it. Pick some click hindges. You start making things.
Start to understand the amount of preformance you can get out of it. Mount
it at different angles to see where its position works best. Play with worm
gears and you start getting the impression for the weight it can hold. Start
working with gears to see how fast or slow you can make something while at
the same time discovering how hard the motor has to work.
In another way of putting it, congrats for making that fit into the "scale
box". (?)
All of the parts we use to create joints and systems have their place in scale.
Ball, Click, Gear, Pin, other....each falls into a system. Build a 1 to
8inch mech and use clips. Build a 8 to 12 inch Mech and use pins and Ball
Joints or Click hindges. 14 inch and up use Gears and Click Hindges or just
gears. And Multiple Balljoints. So far the Technic Turntable is a nice part
for medium and big things. But! There are even more ways of building giant
joints with ordinary Brick! Super Size joints and mechanisms built from sub
components!
So I like to think that there is a Formula in Mech Building as it relates to
what elements you initially choose to support the Armature Stucture.
We all know it, it just feels good to say it.
Or practice being contious of it. (oh boy my spelling is bad today)
I once sent a reverent to K about his use of Turntables and how it was
apparent to me that he was aware of the formula involved to carry that joint
scale through out his MS03. And the he himslef has developed a system. A
system that has served him well in his evolution of stunning MS creations.
He said I was a "Mecha Eficianado" LOL!!!
Where am I going? Oh, I like your Mech its cool.
Guess I should be going now.
Wait! not before I tell you how Super Cool the Feet are! eeeeee! Stuart,
this Mech is the ding dang dow!
Yay Fembots!

| Wow, E! I didn't expect a treatise on Lego mecha, but you so obviously know your stuff... I have to say that I am so pleased to have participated (even via long-distance) in the Mecha display at BW03-- I couldn't have done it without you, and of (...)
