Nice! Sounds purty cool. In fact, so cool that I've thought about buyin'
you a digi camera just so I can see the thing. I've thought about makin'
a morphin mech, but never tried it.

May the Brick be with you!

P.s. How many mega-pixels do you want ; )

Sadly, I lack a camera, or else I'd post some images somewhere of
the
first mecha that I actually *want* other people to see.

It needs a lot of work, but I finally got a working design for a
mech
that transforms into a phoenix (think Transformers: Beast Wars)
somewhat
decently.  I still want to work in a bit more articulation, but I
figure I
might as well try to describe it so that maybe it can inspire
someone...

The legs fold up, and the kneepads unfold to work as the bird's
talons, so
it walks on its knees.  The arms are made of a few long click hinge
pieces,
which fold back and together to form the phoenix's neck (typically a
crane
style neck) with the hands forming the phoenix's head.  The robot
head is
embedded in the back at this point.

The wings took me a while to work out, but they essentially fold
around to
take up not much more space than a standard 8x3 wing plate.  These
meet up
in the back, forming the outer torso of the robot mode, and then the
tail
piece, the doubled-up wing plate from the M-Tron Vector Detector is
designed
to rotate 180 degrees and fold into place as the final portion of
the chest
plate.

In case it wasn't obvious, this design used up a lot of hinges, and
I'm
looking to scale it up a bit over time to make something around 2
feet tall
or so, using mostly turntables and worm gears for the major
components, as
well as adding another degree of freedom to the neck.  Right now,
it's very
small, and in need of a few tweaks, since I'm not too good with
detail, and
lack the proper colored plates to make the piece really shine.

Thanks for reading!

LOL... much appreciated, but I'm also a complete camera snob... as in I've been looking at the Canon D60 (6 megapixel SLR, aka, way too pricey) so I have a solid general purpose camera. Lacking that, I may just bring it out to my parents place, as (...) (22 years ago, 29-Jun-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Hey, Tim-- The responses are great, but you're breaking all the threads! It's hard to follow the whole thread that way. :) Is there something up with your newsreader? Just a heads-up so you can check, just in case. best LFB (...) (22 years ago, 29-Jun-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)
