This is actually the second mech I've worked on. I haven't posted pics of the
first one yet. Those will show up later this week in the form of Equinox in the
UFO section of my site. I have three more mechs in the works at the moment
including one that I'm estimating as fully articulated at 2 feet tall. Will I
make another M-tron colored mech? Probably, but it will have to be much larger
than Overkill. As I toy with mech building, I get a better idea of the
articulation problems faced by many of the other builders. Overkill originally
started as a 36" tall model whose articulation came from click hinges. As you
probably guessed, it fell apart the first time it left the table. It was too
tall to support it's own weight.
To those that like the Overkill mech, I'd like to point out the pieces used on
his feet are the same as the pieces used in the small arctic set for the
snowmobile. I love to use so-called 'worthless pieces' in my models to show it
can be done and in many cases well hidden. You should also note the buzzsaw arm
courtesy of throwbots.
Both Equinox and Overkill use the basic Gargoyle leg plans created by Colin
Gutierrez. Both mechs needed slight modifications to those leg plans in order to
become extremely mobile, but they are Colin's plans, nonetheless.
Final Note on Overkill-it was desinged as a larger Equinox with M-tron colors
being the most important consideration. Total build time from start to finish-6
hours. The legs were functional within 45 minutes of starting.
