If the color scheme is just a little bit off, dose that make the mecha seem
just thrown together without much effort put into it even though there was a
lot of effort put into it? And if it does, where would one obtain the
correct or most previlent colors that would go great with the style of mecha?

Everyone else correct me if I am wrong, but I see what we create here and
display with the world is our art form. We 'sculpt' these beautiful plastic
pieces to have functionality and to look good.

For me color is a BIG issue. I have every color separated in bags and work
with only the colors I intend to use for that certain MOC, similar like an
artist selects his or her pallete. I choose no more then three main colors
to use on one creation and maybe another accent color.

There are exceptions IMO. Some mecha I have seen seem to have no color
specific areas, meaning the torso could be scattered with white, grey,
black, and blue, but if you look it seems like camo.

All creations have effort put into it, some more then others, but all should
be recognized with the same unbias eye and be recognized for it's strong points.

Also LEGO's are expensive. I face that problem all the time. I realize that
some enthusiasts do not have the money to invest in tons of bricks to feed
there craving.

If you do have some cash to burn on LEGO's, I would suggest the STAR WARS
line. It consistanly produces great funtional pieces and in good colors.
Grey, IMO, is the predominant color of all mecha; grey = metal. Plus the
dark grey in the SW sets look REALLY good. It's dark and accents lighter
colors, but is not black, which is hard to photograph details. White is
clean and looks good on mecha, blue is very crisp, great highlight color.
Red looks neat with darker colors.

The route I take in collecting colors is to buy multiples of smaller sets.
They of course cost less up front and have tons of little detail pieces.
Bigger sets come in handy if you are running low on plan old bricks.

My fav sets now for good parts:
1. T3 Trike: Inexpensive (approx. $10) and all good parts best little set ever

2. Droid Escape: Real cheap ($2 on clearance @ Wal-Mart) Nice round pieces

3. Snowspeeder: Mid range (approx. $20) lots of slopes, guns, and click hinges

4. STUDIOS Stunt Car Studio (Reg price $20, on clearance at Wal-Mart $3!!!
[I bought 20 of these bad boys!!!]) nice slopes and curves plus the minifig
has armor looking decal, great for military stuff.

Hey man just try your best and have fun!!!!! That is the most important. I
really hope this helped.
