LFB,
The pictures were taken via regular photography. I recently received a
Canon A20 Digital Camera as a gift and I must say the little thing is
awesome. Crystal clear pictures every time and affordable to boot. It's
gotten great reviews from the serious digital camera sites(cnet gave it only
a fair rating, they're smoking crack) and I highly recommend the unit as
well if anyone is in the market for a camera.
The pictures that you see are jpg's at a compression level of 8 and a
resolution of 600x450 pxl. Uncompressed the pictures are even clearer and
more crisp, almost too crisp. The originals at 1024x768 and uncompressed do
look like renderings.
If you want similar results . . . .
First you'll need a good camera. Like I said before, I used Canon's A20 2.1
megapixel. Any other good digital, SLR or Point & shot should work as well.
For the back drop I used regular poster board which is a bit too reflective
and too small in terms of size but it worked out for me. If you can find
the big rolls of photograph matte, go with that. It comes in a lot of
colors too, I just couldn't find any near my area.
After getting all this stuff just take the pictures. I set up my little
studio outside my house during a nice sunny day, to use natural lighting.
Set up the camera for close up shots if the subject is small and make sure
you are facing away from the sun. I didn't use a macro lens and was able to
get pretty close to the subject. But if you want to get really close you
should get one. The A20 has an an optional one.
Once all the pictures are taken I use photoshop 6 to do some modifications.
Any touch up work that needs to be done should be done first. The only
thing i really did was take the background to white. After that I reduce
the image to the final resolution size.
I know it sounds like a lot of work but I set up shop, took about 20
pictures and edited them all in about an hour.
Hope this information helps.
