I think you can understand my disappointment, but at the same time I can
understand wanting to keep the unique look.

Thanks.

Ben,

I do plan to do some windows wallpaper backgrounds for downloading off
my site, and undoubtedly there will be some larger images of the models
when I do.

As for answers to your other questions, 3dsMax would make a lot of the
stuff that I did easier, I just happen to have the older version at home
(I have Max on my work PC, but my home PC needs some upgrading before it
will run Max with any efficiency).  There's no reason you can't use Max
to do the same thing that I did.

Except, I want to keep this rendering look unique to my site, at least
for now.  If it was a case of this being the only method of rendering
lego, I'd divulge all my secrets, but I did quite a lot of work with
building a 3d studio lego database from the ground up (still largely
incomplete of course), and I've done A LOT of trial and error to get the
look the way I want it.  Call it ego, or whatever, but I don't want to
give away my secrets just yet.

I know that kind of goes against the nature of lego cad in general, in
that it's always been a very communal process, with everyone sharing
their ideas and efforts.  But here I've got a way to make my website,
and my models stand out from the rest of the web, and call me selfish,
but I want to keep that for the time being.

I've still got some ideas that I want to try.  One is to use snapshots
of game screens (out of 1st person sci-fi games like Quake) to give my
mechs a cool background.  The trick will be drawing in shadows to make
the robot seem to actually be in the scene.  I don't know how well it
will work, but I'm going to give it a try one of these days.

Also, I've got to figure out a way to improve the image quality.  I had
to make a choice between jpg or gif, and neither was ideal.  The
original rendered image is much nicer than the jpgs I posted, with a
smoothly gradated background, and better defined lines, without the
nasty color bleeding that shows up in a compressed file.  I'm going to
try rendering directly to a jpg file and see if that's any better (as
opposed to rendering to another image type and converting later).

Sorry not to be more helpful, and I do still intend to feature your
Kodiak and Ronin on my site (assuming your still OK with that).

P.S., I loved your pictorial account of the battle at Tremor VIII, very
cool!
