Pilots and service crews, gather around! We at Mechahub are pleased to
announce an exciting new contest. The theme for this contest is Civilian
Mecha. The only real restrictions are that the mecha possess no weaponry
(i.e. not for military application) and the limits of your imagination. There
are no technology time frame restraints either so it can range anywhere from
Steampunk to Futuristic. The contest will run from March 16th to May 25th.
There are several examples of unarmed mecha in popular science fiction and
anime like the exo-loader in the movie Aliens, construction patlabors in
Patlabor, and the logger mechs in Battletech. Some ideas to explore are
salvage and retrieval, warehouse/dock and spacedock workers, EMS/first
responders, communications, sports, and entertainment, tugs, product vendors,
etc.
4 Categories are the following:
Land
Sea
Air
Space
The 3 sizes per category are:
Minifig scale with pilot, unmanned minifig scale (i.e. drone), and
microscale.
You may enter only one moc per category so please do not rush to post. Please
only enter new creations. If you have made a civilian mecha that predates
this contest, and has not been posted before then it can be accepted. Placing
the mecha in a diorama to showcase its ability would greatly enhance its
presentation but is not required. A secret council of shadowy personnel will
declare the winners for each size and category.
Submit entries to the Mechahub Civilian Mecha Contest thread on
Lugnet.Build.Mecha with one picture link of the moc, directing to your
gallery. This contest has been posted on other AFOl forums/websites to give
other people a chance to enter. For easier compiling purposes for the judges,
just pick one forum to post your entries. Please do not multi-post your
entries. For example, DO NOT post your entry to both Flickr and Lugnet.
Steve Witt and the Lego Group have generously provided fantabulous prizes.
Now go forth to your fabrication units and churn baby churn!
P.S.
The Mechahub site is currently down due to hosting issues. We apologize for
the inconvenience and hope to rectify things soon.
We also reserve the right to modify the rules at any time if it suits the
best interests of the contest.

The contest deadline has been extended to 6/6/09. Extending the contest was not
a decision that was taken lightly. The pros and cons were weighed and in the
end, you cant satisfy everyone. It was felt that the community would benefit
with an extension. And no one wants the community to lose out, right? Also it
was stated originally that we reserved the rights to modify the rules.
