Thanks for the comments guys. Yes, the legs do scizzor. When in the squatting
position the legs are in their full collapsed position and the mech more or less
rests on the upper ankle joint. When standing I insert a pin in the upper ankle
which prevents the legs from collapsing.
You are correct in that most of this model is contructed from pieces of the
Ultimate X-Wing set. Unfortunately there are lots of other sets in here too.
The ankle bones are from the technic battle droid, the horns are from the
technic destroyer droid. The cockpit window is from the original snow speeder
set, the ball joints in the arms are from the technic pit droid, the fingers are
actually from a very old set I had as a kid. And most of the click hinges for
the arms and hips came from either the snowspeeder sets or the Ultimate Tie
Fighter.
I didnt consider trying to minimize sets. But you raise and interesting idea.
If I try to limit the sets it might make it possible for someone else to build
one.
This mech is pretty solid but I really want to build a massive one someday. I
think I have plenty of pieces as I own quite a few large sets. All together I
must have over 10,000 pieces. The trick to the large mechs though is the
joints. Im still experimenting with different ways to construct joints and Im
not sure Ive got the right design to support a really heavy mech yet.

| Hi Ken, thanks for sharing! I got to agree with Jas, for a first mech, this isn't bad. I'm looking at the supports in the legs and it looks like if you pivot something around that is what makes the legs change position. Am I right? I like how the (...)
