Hello,
I know I am cutting it a little close but here it is, my entry for the Iron
Mecha Contest, the FD-98 Washout Fire Fighting Mech
The mech is armoured with composite materials to resist temperatures above
1500°C without impact to performance nor the comfort of the pilot.
The main cannon, located on the right arm, is capable of pumping over 8000 GPM
when connected to a large enough water resource.
It is also equipped with 6 launchers for self-expanding fire retarding foam
canisters on the left arm.
Pilot access is through the back of the mech.
Design:
I struggled for almost the whole month with the legs. Then finally after putting
away my ExoForce sets, I came up with the idea of a leg that is built around a
1x1 brick core using SNOT to reinforce it. This took a while to get right
because of several points of failure since connections were only being held by 1
stud on an angle no less. Due to part limitations, the mech went from white and
black to red and black. Which gave me the idea of doing it as a fire fighter.
Once the legs were done on Sunday, the rest built itself. It can be a little
heavy for the legs which use a ball joint but the heal on the leg actually helps
support the body and prevents it from looking like Bambi on the ice.
I see things I want to do to improve the design of the body and will probably
pursue them at a later date.
I would like to thank everyone involved for coming up with a contest that pushed
me to build my first Mech MOC.
Jude
