   Hi all,

Introducing the “Shadow” Class of Mech:

The background story

Behind the scenes Extra

The Shadow is a light-medium class of mech mostly used for recon work. You can read further details on the above pages.

This post contains many firsts for me: My first general post on Lugnet, my first completed moc since my dark-age and my first mech. So all critique is welcome.

Hope you like it, Chris.

Welcome to LUGNET Chris!

Just as an aside, I remember visiting your main site a few years ago and checking out your superb T-34 page. I even downloaded some of the CAD files. Good job on them. :-)
Thanks! The service manual was a real “labour of love”. It took many months to complete and I’m really happy that so many people have made use of them. It sort of justifies the effort. :)

Back to LEGO...

For a first mech, or first post dark-age MOC, for that matter, this is amazing. You show excellent attention to detail, not only in the technical aspects of LEGO construction, but also in more stylistic matters. I like your scattered use of silver and your simple, trans-piece covered weapon systems (lasers, guidance systems, missile warheads). The main colour scheme is good as well, and doesn’t look too busy. I also like how the stripped down, rationalized appendages convey speed and agility. The feet especially caught my eye. They just look so structural and practical, as opposed to fanciful, as seen far too often. It definitely seems like you put a lot of thought into this creation. Well done on all accounts.

Overall, this is really an auspicious first post and MOC. I hope to see more from you Chris!

Thank you, and to everyone else for their very kind words.

The colour scheme was dictated out of need. Black is my main technic color, red is my main shapes color. I tried to keep red as the main color. I just had to use the chrome pieces that I got from titan xp set, as what’s a mech without a little glitz? ;) Btw the pilot is a loaner from my sister-inlaw’s beau. I gave all my minifigs away in my dark years. :(

I wanted this mech to be at the light-end of the mech classes, that gave rise to the thin (ok :), I’ll make them thicker next time) arms and legs. I also did not want to overload the mech with weaponry.

Thanks for noticing the feet, they took a bit of effort not to end up with something big and clunky or have the ankle up too high. Most of what has appeared in the mech is as a result of putting random pieces together and looking at the result, a prime example is the shoulder joint.

Again thanks for the kind words. I’ve got some ideas for the next one ;) so we’ll see how they pan out.

Chris.
