I have been asked an interesting question regarding public frame designs,
like the GlaGla frame:
Does it have to be an original design by me?
My answer to this is Yes, UNLESS the design you are using has been made
publicly available for use. This could mean free or pay-for instructions.
As such, a few examples are: the
GlaGla frame, Eric
Sophies Build-a-Bot
design or Brian Coopers
Teknomeka
model.
Of course variations in the design are encouraged but if an author of a
design wanted the design to be public you should be allowed to use it.
The flip side of this is that theoretically the medium mech category stands
the chance of being nothing but Gla frames. That will be fine. Judges will
be looking for a personality that stands out.
The curators of .mecha want as many people who wish to participate be able
to do so. Including those that may not normally build mecha or feel that
building mecha is too hard. This rule should allow anyone who wants to be
able to participate, to be able to do so.

I guess I would have hoped the entries would have some hint of originality
i.e. a gla gla armature frame with an original skin, or something like that.
Getting a small army of black Gla frames identical to his instructions
doesnt seem very interesting. And what if someone builds a gla frame and
poses it in the exact same pose as one of Glas armature poses?
I guess Im just ranting, as this is a pose contest, not a build contest.
And you do say the goal is to attract people to mecha....

I will be entering a gla frame in the 6 to 12 in mech class. Mainly for fun but
I also have a pose that is NOT seen in his gallery. I wanted to do this to show
some of the ability of his design. My pose for the frame is original. I also
will be entering the 12in and taller class. I hope you all will like what I have
done with the gla frame. I also made my start in mecha with this frame and
wanted to honor Master Gla for inspiring me. Thanks. Marcus Clancy
