I like it. The color scheme is, if I may say so, more integrated than Teikatsu’s. Why? It’s mostly spider-orange, but interrupted by grey and black -- which, as an essay (re: Color Theory in LEGO Models) that I recently read explained, are neutral non-colors that can be used in any quantity.

I especially like the feet: with the paired 1x1x2/3 slopes, they resemble those Japanese toe-socks. Or you can think of them as sneakers with a grey toe and sole, and orange upper. Then above, there’s the black ankle, which leads into the black stripe up the leg. The arms are orange, with a black stripe down the middle. The trans-orange slopes on the ankles and chest are nice accents -- though to continue the pattern, they could also appear on the wrists and head.

The head seems a bit... large? busy? incoherent? There’s no obvious face (not that a mech needs one), and the rest almost-but-not-quite resembles a headdress. (“Five Star Stories” is probably the top contender for Mechs with Giant Ornate Heads.) And the black antenna-rods seem a bit over-long (not that there’s much flexibility in that department); I get the sense that Gaidoku would be snagging things (foliage, industrial hoses, other mechs) as it moved.

The torso seems very narrow compared to the legs, but that’s a human-expectation-aesthetics thing, not a functional problem. (“So, we put the main fusors in the legs, and tankage in the calves...”) But more than that, there’s the odd way the abdomen and hips come together at a narrow point, then go in opposite directions: abdomen back, hips forward. The body is a big “C” shape, or maybe a “T.”

The big shield is nicely Gundam-ish, but unless it projects a force-field, those Rock Raider windshield-bars will just get in the way. (A design problem it inherits from the Robo set.) Unless it’s wielded as some sort of sword-breaker. (I.e. catch the opponent’s sword, then twist!)

Gaidoku is made using parts from 4 Arachno pods (set 4413) [...]

Lucky you. The only place I’ve seen the new X-Pods (aside from LEGO online) is my local TRU, and very very few at that. I managed to snag a Purple Monster pod today -- the only X-Pod there. Wheee! DelVaLUG-lime elements!

Hey, Thanks for the reply. I could have built a better mini mech but I was trying to limit myself to what pieces I had in front of me at the time. This mini mech is the prototype for some mini mechs I plan to make later. For now I am working on a new version of Teikiatsu. It will be the same in most ways but I plan to change a couple of problems areas. For starters there will be less orange and a new chest assembly. I will post when finished. Thanks again. Marcus
