Build a Better Mouse Trap
The contest is to build a better mouse trap from standard Lego elements. Better
means more reliable than spring traps and more humane than glue traps. Live
trapping is preferred- I dont hate these mice, I just want them gone from my
house.
Entries will be graded in the following categories, with a score of 1 through
ten for each:
Reliability: Should capture a significant number of the mice who encounter it.
Mice will explore a new object in their territory- the rest is up to you.
Cleanliness: I dont want to touch a mouse. Ill clean up after a mouse, but
only if its easy to do.
Function: Engineering elegance, sound design, and so on. Extravagance will be
considered. Use parts a normal or typical AFOL might have. An RCX is fine- but
using six rotation sensors is a bit much.
Style: A wide-open category, Ill know it when I see it. Includes interesting
or innovative use of parts if appropriate. A theme might be nice, but not if
it impedes function.
Reproducibility: you should provide instructions to reproduce your design.
Photographs or MLCad or whatever you like, as long as its clear. Winning
design, and probably some others, will be posted to the web.
Prizes will be substantial, and will be announced soon. Please indicate here or
by email if you plan to enter, so I can get an idea what the prizes actually
should be. How about an RCX as a prize?

| (...) The contest is over! Judging the entries was difficult, but a winner emerged: (URL) Zopalin's excellent space! mousetrap was the entry judged most likely to catch a mouse, is clean and humane, and well styled. The detailed instructions add (...) (19 years ago, 8-May-06, to lugnet.build.contests, FTX)
