If they had 56 teams... hmm... (doing math)... Theyd need to allow for 8
teams all going at once, and thats assuming 3-hour blocks for each time
slot, no time for cleanup, etc. And thats also for the duration of the
entire show (which closes at midnight Friday and Saturday). So that would
quadruple the amount of space they needed, assuming they wanted to stress the
schedule with times so frequent and close together. And of course theyd need
110 ISDs to build with. Wow. $33,000 worth of ISDs. How awesome would that
be?
Even with 8 teams, thats 14 ISDs, which is still impressive. I wonder what
they do with the completed brick? Give it to the team that built it, I guess?

Simple--you disassemble the assembled ISDs and use the materials to build as
many SSDs as possible. How many ISDs did we determine youd need to build one
to-scale SSD? You should be able to squeeze a few out of 110 ISDs, right?

I dunno, itd be cutting it close I think! The SSD is what? Like 10x the size of
an ISD? Which, from an area perspective would require 100 ISDs to have the same
surface area. And the remaining 10 to try and give it some semblance of
structural integrety. Wow. And not even remotely close to a Death Star.

Jeez! I hadnt done the math and didnt realize that the SSD was quite so huge.
The excellent radio program This American Life ran a
story about living aboard
the aircraft carrier
USS John Stennis. One person had the tedious job of restocking the ships
vending machines for the crew of 5,000, twelve hours per day. I know that
droids would probably handle this kind of thing on an SSD, but yikes! How many
Womp Rat Bars might the crew consume in a day?
Hey, while were on the subject, I came upon
this nice SSD by Mike Taylor while
googling for MEGABLOKS MOCs. Mike doesnt seem to have mentioned it here on
LUGNET, but I may be wrong. Though its not to scale with the LEGO ISD, its
still a cool representation.
