I think Pern would work better as a MOC theme (and it's way more likely to
happen).  The dragons are big enough that they should be built out of
bricks, which we can already do.

I'd agree, except for colors. Green, blue and brown are fine... maybe yellow
could stand in for gold... but I don't know about bronze.

Hmm.  I'm guessing that gold or bronze bricks would be more expensive
than regular bricks.  So I think that would make it less likely that
LEGO would make them.  But, they've made the technic Super Battle Droid,
which has blue parts treated similarly to how I'd expect
Pern-dragon-gold and Pern-dragon-bronze to be made.

The one-piece pterodactyls from Adventurers could serve as fire lizards
(though they aren't available in enough colors).

And they are too big, if we're going to be picky about size :-) They are
supposed to be able to perch on people's shuolders!

True, the 'dactyls are too big.  But the best we could hope for is
something that would perch on a hand.  Minifigs don't have much in the
way of shoulders.

What sets would you like to see in this "theme"?

Seems like an obvious candidate for a "set" would be a dragon (and its
rider).  I did some checking some checking into dragon size,[1] and
converted what I found to minifig dimensions.[2]  A "Ramoth" set would
include a gold dragon, 100 studs from nose to tail-end, with a 200-stud
wingspan!  Time for some selective compression! :)

This also no longer belongs in dear-lego, but I have no idea where to put it
really. FUT build.ancient for want of a better idea!

I won't argue.  Too much. :)

1) There doesn't seem to be a lot of hard data about Pern dragon sizes
on the 'net.  The best I found was for an RP group, based on 3rd pass
<http://www.geocities.com/morningdawnweyr/Dragonsize.htm>.  And some
other page mentioned gold dragons as maxing out at 40 meters in length.
2) Lego Scale Converter tool,
<http://www.suave.net/~dave/cgi/scale.cgi>.  Thanks David!
