I wish LEGO made some different angles for canopies.. your solution is very
creative as far as getting around that limitation. Do you have any pic's of

mind sharing. :)

Thanks, Joel.  I found myself wishing that LEGO made 1x2 45 degree sclear
slopes, or 1x1 clear plates.  Either of those pieces would have allowed me to
tailor the front of the canopy a bit better.  Or a completely new shorter canopy
piece that mates to the naboo-fighter windshield would be nice, too :D

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the underbelly.  The landing gear
are attached via 1x2 brick hinges (for the nose gear) and 1x1 tiles with
vertical clips attached to the 1x2 plate with the horizontal handle (for the
wing gear).  The wheels are the typical airplane wheels, with the 2x2 plate
supporting a single wheel.  These fold up into cavities in the plane, and then
panel doors (consisting of plates attached to more 1x2 brick hinges) swing
closed behind them.  Acutally, the doors can't quite close because of the
wheels, but their resulting angles actually make the area look rounded rather
than flat, which works perfectly!

That may be confusing - I'll try and get a pic of the underbelly too.

Thanks again!  Btw, I loved your Pacific Airfield ...

(...) Very cool, Shaun! I've wanted to take a shot at making a P-38, myself, but I've too many other things lined up at present - including a rebuild of my Corsair. (I was pretty happy with it till I came across your MOC's and now I want to try and (...) (23 years ago, 23-May-01, to lugnet.build)
