A 2x wall built from two layers of 1x's allows you to have different colors on
the inside and outside, and allows you to block light coming through cracks by
staggering the layers. The layers tend to separate on large walls, though,
unless you design in features that stick through the wall, allowing you to
anchor the layers together.

| I'm curious what other builders use to build their walls, 1xN's or 2xN's? When I was a kid, I used 2x's for my walls. After my dark ages, I used 1x's, primarily because of cost. You get more linear studs of wall per dollar. All of the windows and (...) (24 years ago, 13-May-01, to lugnet.build)
