(...) I can come at this with a slightly more, uh, "unique" case: I build ships, with walls generally 8-14 bricks high and straight runs of 100-300 studs. I can't even dream of using 1xn unless I plan my subdivisions specifically to buttress (...) (23 years ago, 13-May-01, to lugnet.build)
