Hi, Thanks for the compliments. I have several reasons for having high ceilings: - In many forms of classical architecture, extremely high ceilings are the norm. For instance, one famouse Italian architect, Paladio, recommends having a ceilling as high as the room is wide! This sounds pretty obnoxious, but you can actually find many old buildings in Europe like this. - I like the look of the oversized floors because it gives a strong vertical stretch to the building. It makes it look like its stretching towards the sky. - An oversized floor gives you more room for detail with windows and moulding. I like mini-fig scale, but 6 bricks high isn't enough room to do any complex arch or molding work. - On a large building, if you only make each story 6 blocks high, it is almost impossible to see in, especially to the back. It is even more impossible to get your hand inside to place interior details. By making them 10-12 bricks high, it is easy to see in as well as place interior objects. - It is not overly expensive to build walls. If you have a few architectural details, you can make most of the rest out of cheap bulk bricks. However, plates are far more expensive and are needed for floors. By making each story higher, I need less stories for a given hight and therefore, I need less plates. Brad J.D. (...) Seems many buildings in the US are this way, too. But that's just 'cause they put small rooms in 'em. But seriously, though, it makes sense.
