if I'm thinking of the same piece you are (the 2 stud long, round pieces
with a technic snap in each end?) wouldn't they be too large? I don't have
one on hand, but I seem to recall them being slightly too wide to be mounted
side by side on one of those 6-hole discs (please forgive the blatantly
non-technical names ^_^)
If I am wrong... then I am incorrect

| (...) As tonight's Stargate is rubbish I thought I'd check. And my conclusion is you are indeed wrong. The barrels are close but do not touch and are free to rotate. Perhaps you got it mixed up with another similair part, good try though. Steve (24 years ago, 1-Apr-01, to lugnet.build)
