first off, thanks.
second, here's a pic to answer your question:

those are 3 1x2 with single stud plates with a 1x1 plate and 1x1 tile in the
middle, and 2 1x2grille tiles on the sides. they stay on very well, i just
have to watch when i touch it because it tends to disalign them or sometimes
make them fall off. hope that helps
