Attaching a chain...

I'm working on a forklift design and would like to use the
Technic motorcycle chain (opened) to lift the forks.

The only problem (at the moment) is how to attach the chain
ends to the forks and the truck structure.

I've looked at the instruction scans for the older forklift
model and see that they're using one of the older tread links
to attach to the ent of the chain and slipping one side of
the tread link into a technic hole on a beam.  Rather clever,
but it looks kinda hokey and, for that matter, I don't
have any tread links.

I've found the the claw portion of a link will fit into the
slots on one of those black connecters, and that's fairly
handy, but it's not secure -- it slips right out under
any sort of load.

Does anybody have any Lego-friendly suggestions?  I'd rather
not glue the link to a brick, if I can find another solution.

Thanks,

Robert Wallace

This came up before in the context of how to attach bridge counterweights. I seem to recall the consensus was that in that application, using a gear that is pinned in place and does not turn along with something to keep the chain from coming off the (...) (25 years ago, 16-Feb-99, to lugnet.build)
