I am not sure if this is exactly what you need, but LDAO's HTML generator does
figure out how many parts are in a processed model.
And it generates an HTML page with the total of parts, how many of each part in
each color, and a picture of each type/color of part.
I am not sure if it has been changed any, but the last time I had used it, it
counted subfiles as parts. So if you need an accurate, overall list of parts,
it would be best to start with a fully inlined file with no subparts.
An example:
http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/9500/scorp01.htm
and select the "View Parts List" link.
