"World Devastators" were large automated factories that appeared in the Dark
Horse comic "Dark Empire", which was meant as a sequel to Return of the Jedi.
Without getting into spoilers about the plot, WDs basically churn over a
planet's surface strip-mining out raw materials that are then used to create
droid fighters. The whole thing is rather ludicrous, combining the worst parts
of your typical Star Wars one-upsmanship (This race is stronger than a wookiee!
The Sun Crusher is more powerful than a Death Star! etc) with entirely
questionable functionality (see, the big melty things render the surface to
component atoms, which are then sucked up into this big factory box and
manipulated until fully-programmed droid fighters come out on this side!
Ta-da!).
On the other hand, the propulsion system of the craft in question is
reminiscent of the afremoentioned "big melty things" on the sides of the WDs-
which isn't a bad thing, mind you, as how the thing looked is totally seperate
from what I think of it as a plot device. :D
