All my clocks:

In this clock, I have been fine-tuning my design, and I think I am starting
to push it pretty far. This clock can run for 12 hours, and it seems to keep
good time, but I have not yet made any careful measurement of its precision.
It can run on 2 lbs, with a great efficiency of 3.5 hr/ftlb, but it is more
reliable if it is run with 3 lbs. It uses turntable tops as large gears, and
it has a gear ratio of 571.7:1 (Drive train spool->40:24 -> 56:8 -> 56:8 ->
56:8 -> escapement (12 teeth)), and it has a pulley on the weight to get
another factor of 2. I am getting very close to my 24hr clock goal. Perhaps
with more pulleys on the weight, this one can make it.
This clock has no features, and it is a lean machine. To rewind it or set
it, you need to push gears around. I left off the one-way ratchets of my
earlier clocks to try to make this one as efficient as possible. It also
turned out looking like less of a sprawling pile than my striking clock.

| Looking good Amnon. Those big gears really helped your design. Ready for a grandfather case. I like the precision shim under the base<grin>. -- Bob Fay California, USA rfay@we.mediaone.net (URL) (24 years ago, 22-Jan-01, to lugnet.build)
