I suppose the only real way would be to keep a logbook of actual time building
and tinkering. As some have pointed out though, the time you spend thinking
about the model is far harder to quantify.
Saying that, keeping a log book in this fashion is perhaps not really in the
spirit of Lego building (for me at least), and there is also the "I really
don't want to know" aspect to consider. The excavator (URL below) took about 6
weeks from start to finish, but I was spending most of my not inconsiderable
spare time and weekends building it; as I said, I really don't want to know :-)
