Try the Adventurers' car hubs. They're spoked the entire way around and are
the same size as the Technic hubs you described. Only problem is that they
might not look "Spacey," they're a bit old fashioned looking.

They also would have to be connected using technic pins w/axle, which will be
weaker than a #4 axle running through.

Great suggestions guys. Thanks. I just took a glance at the Lego website
and I think the Adventurers' car hubs will work. I've been in the dark
ages for about fifteen years until recently, so there are many "new"
pieces I am unfamiliar with.

I think I can use Technic pins. I used them with the freestyle wheels I
had and they allowed the wheels to roll fine as long as I used them in
conjunction with new 1x2 technic bricks. Initially I used some technic
bricks from my childhood collection that had a good bit of wear and they
didn't allow the wheels to rotate very well. The model won't be rolling
around much, it just needs to have the ability to roll so I'm not
worried about wear on the technic bricks.

As for the appearance of the wheels, yea they are not so great, but if
they work then I'll be happy.
