Single stage sorting is much more worthwhile with that many sets, like
you say, you process one type of bag at a time. I think the most I have
sorted at once was about 10 large sets (the other night I did do
something like 20 polybags or other small sets at a time, but those are
essentially single bag sets). I do pull out all the bags of the same
type and do basically what you describe, except that about half of the
parts go into a two stage sorting (one of the criteria for single stage
sorting is actually how accessible that part is in my storage, the more
accessible the part is, the more worthwhile single stage sorting is
since when the bin fills, I just immediately transfer those parts into
storage).
The biggest slowdown for me probably is the fact that most of the time
I'm only sorting 1-4 copies of the same set. I definitely don't buy in
the same quantity as Larry (but then I'm also not trying to feed an
assembly line of custom sets).
