First: take all your stuff apart completely -- even down to arms our of
sockets and legs off of the waist part. This allows you to get into all the
nooks and crannies and to not trap air in between elements while soaking.
For grey and white bricks -- bleach and time will work. Dilute it in a ratio
of 4 parts water to 1 part bleach -- or even mix a more diluted mixture. Then
soak your elements for 1-2 weeks.
Other colors can be cleaned by a good soaking in Simple Green or detergent of
choice for a good week.
Heavy soil can be hand cleaned with a very soft toothbrush.
Do not soak gold or silver elements, the metallic coating will come off.
Allow 2-3 days minimum for items to dry. You might even try shaking some
parts to get the water out of the recesses.
Brasso can be used to polish trans elements and remove printing. This should
be followed by a good washing too.

| I just got an older set off of e-bay, and it seems to have yellowed from dust or smoke. What is the best way to get these parts clean, without fading any of the colors? Any suggestions will be apreciated! Tom Heidemann (24 years ago, 3-Aug-00, to lugnet.build)
