Sorry if I sound like an idiot, but what does SPUD mean?

S: Single | Special(ized)
P: Purpose | Piece
U: UnLEGOish | Ugly | Useless
D: Decorative | Design

So, in other words, the Jar Jar Binks head?

That's a good example of a SPUD. But there are tons of these out there... too
bad AFOLs don't get to design pieces. :-)

Mmm...here's a few SPUDs:

Those weird cockpit pieces on the UFO and Explorien sets.

The large chassis pieces from the new Town cars, like the garbage truck or
the fire engines.

Of course, I'm still of the opinion that *any* LEGO piece, no matter how
seemingly useless, is a cool structure just waiting to happen. ;-)
