Amazingly detailed 6 wide fire truck by William Toenjes:

This is one of the best minifig scale town vehicles I have ever seen.

I stumbled upon this truck yesterday when the only pics on there were
3 of the Quint itself. Now I see there are pics of a school bus,
U-Haul, and a medic unit also. Its a nice apparatus, with lots of
detail, but its quite wide, a full 8 studs at the bumper. I suppose
with all the extra's like handrails and mirrors this was necessary,
but it would be a bit overscaled to most of the current 6 wide rigs
out there. It also seems a bit high, but I do like the fact that
although its a Quint, Bill has managed to keep the overall length
within reason.

I agree; Bill's creations are even more spectacular in person.  Those
pics were taken by John Gerlach at our (GMLTC) meeting last week using
his new digital camera.  Although not a new MOC (I think Bill built it
last fall), this might be its first appearance on the web.  Bill is
currently building a really nice and really *big* fire station to house
it (with Conan's bricks, so you know it will have all of the bells and
whistles;)

Another fabulous emergency vehicle and big-vehicle-in-general builder is
fellow GMLTCer and GMLUGer Paul Foster ( http://www.gmlug.org/foster/ )

Although please note, Bram-- these guys are 6 wide builders, not puny,
girlie-man 4 wide "minifig-scale" stuff;-)

Let us not forget who first posted pictures of an MOC six wide fire
truck on the internet and in doing so perhaps started the six wide
fire truck craze, or at least reignited it in some people.

Sometimes I'm left out of the loop though because some of my current
apparatus feature modified elements -gasp- but this is mainly to
overcome some of the problems when trying to build things to minifig
scale. Also LEGO just dosen't make everything one needs to build
working (in the eyes of minifigs) fire apparatus.

(...) I figure that any scale is fine as long as you stick to it if you want to display your models together. For example, one of my semi's (the tanker) would work well with <set:2448>, but still dwarfs a four wide. My eight-wide (the trailer, not (...)
