To me, it depends on the buildings.
Green roof:
white and red building: Italian restaurant;
brown building like a bank or log cabin, or some other old red brick building;
plain white house;
white, yellow, gray apartment building or inn;
white, yellow, or blue Victorian house;
barn;
Black roof:
white building for police station (that's a given) and hospital;
red building for fire station (another given), but also for stores;
grey building for landmarks: old church, old train station, mission, etc.;
yellow building for guard/toll/drop-off film booths, stations of various kinds,
tavern;
blue building for fishing or seafront buildings;
any building color Victorian house;
White roof:
any building color - warehouses, passenger terminals;
white building for ultra-modern skyscraper;
any building color Victorian house (though I've never seen a black one);
blue building for fishing or seafront buildings;
yellow building for guard/toll/drop-off film booths, stations of various kinds,
Orange roof:
I only have two ideas, but I need to build them first to see if they will look good.
If they work, I'll post them.
In thinking over this list, I couldn't really come up with many blue buildings that
I thought looked like any real blue buildings I'd seen, except for a school
house that is blue with white trim, and Victorian houses. I like blue, but it's such
a strange color to make fitting into a setting. It works best in the sky (yet
another given). If TLG decided to make a steel-gray color, then I'd consider
using it in buildings.
