I was delighted to find that Kevin Loch's instruction scans of the 8868
set has been updated to include the alternate model of the garbage truck
with grabber arms.

The 8868 set is unique in many ways. It is the only Technic pneumatic
set to come with a motorised air compressor but alas, no blue air tank.
(The Dacta Advanced Pneumatics set 9633 does come with an air tank).
The 8868 alternate model is also the only Technic model to incorporate
pneumatic control. It is here used to open and close the grabber arms
and to raise and lower the grabber automatically.
Not having the original set, I implemented mine with parts from an
assortment of sets. So my version looks like it's in technicolor but it
works all the same.
Opportunity was taken to do a write-up on the pneumatic control circuit
which was first expounded by Eric Brok. Hopefully the wiring diagrams
will prove to be useful. View them at

Enjoy!
