I think we are, yes. The part is used as a "connector" between two
models in the sets. In 4216 two of them are used to connect a "trailer"
to a camel(!).

Good idea, yes. Most of the tow trucks I've seen in Norway are red.
But the blue connectors are somewhat hidden in the 8462, so it is
probably no problem to use the black ones from 8450 in stead.

As for the chairs, I'd say you can use any colour you want. They don't
need to match the colour of the truck, do they? :-)
And I think having the colour of the air tanks contrasting the rest of
the truck would look very cool.
